After a successful two-month pilot program, RMH has adopted an organization-wide recycling program in partnership with Green Earth, a full-service recycler based in Harrisonburg.
“RMH is planning to ‘go green’ at our new facility, so we are seeking ways to transition into environmentally-friendly work practices at our current facility,” explained Bernie Ferguson, director, Environmental Services.
He added that each department will be asked to maintain a collection bin for plastic, glass and aluminum recyclables. These collected materials can then be deposited in a central roll-off bin on the main RMH campus. Employees also may bring recyclable materials from home, Ferguson said.
“We will be able to take all of the recycling collection containers with us to the new facility,” he noted. “We hope this will help in making a seamless transition to recycling in our new environment.”
Earlier this year, RMH switched to “green” cleaning products that bear the approval of Green Seal, a third-party evaluation agency. These measures will help RMH toward achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at its new facility, scheduled to open mid-2010.
