$3,165 for the Childhood Obesity Scholarship Fund,
managed by the RMH Foundation, at its fifth annual
Fall Fitness Festival Sept. 27.

The RMH Wellness Center’s fifth annual “Fitness for Life” Fall Festival held Sept. 27 raised $3,165 for the RMH Foundation’s childhood obesity scholarship fund.

This fund provides scholarships for at-risk youths to participate in the RMH Wellness Center Kid Fit or Teen Fit programs, according to Melinda Kacer, interim director, RMH Wellness Center.

“The donations raised at the Fall Fitness Festival will enable at least 14-15 children to participate in our Kid Fit and Teen Fit programs,” Kacer said. “For most of these children, this will be the only education and role modeling they will experience for good health and nutrition.”

The RMH Wellness Center will continue to work in partnership with The Harrisonburg/Rockingham Community Services Board, the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County School Systems and other community outreach programs to select scholarship recipients, she said.

New member enrollment fees of more than $2,800 collected during the Sept. 27 festival were donated toward the scholarship fund. Fees collected for special classes taught by fitness professional Cammy Dennis also were contributed, for a total gift of $3,165.

More than 400 people attended the family event, which featured health information and nutrition seminars, healthy cooking demonstrations, free health screenings, a blood drive, a golf clinic and other activities for children and adults.

The RMH Foundation’s childhood obesity scholarship fund was founded in 2006 to provide health and nutrition education to at-risk children. For more information about the program, or to request a scholarship application, call 540-564-5685.
