RMH cardiothoracic surgeon Steven Marra, MD, will offer a free educational seminar on treatment of cardiac angina, the chronic pain resulting from coronary artery disease, at 6 p.m. May 4, at the JMU Festival Conference and Student Center.
Those who suffer from mild to severe or disabling pain in the chest, jaw, neck, back, shoulders or arms as a result of coronary artery disease may be helped by a therapeutic laser treatment known as transmyocardial revascularization (TMR), said Dr. Marra, medical director, RMH Cardiothoracic Surgery.
“We’ve offered this procedure at RMH since the beginning of our cardiothoracic surgery program in 2008,” he said. “However, not a lot of people know about it because not a lot of heart centers offer it. For patients who have angina, and have been told they’re not candidates for traditional treatment like coronary artery intervention or open heart surgery, we can provide this treatment as sole therapy. We also offer it in combination with other procedures.”
Dr. Marra encouraged those who suffer from angina, but have not been able to receive traditional treatment, to attend the seminar.
Registration for this free event is required by calling RMH Healthsource, 433-4580, or you may register online. Directions and parking information will be provided on request.
