The Alpha Phi Sorority of James Madison University and RMH Women’s Health Focus are partnering to sponsor the fourth annual “Move Your Phi’t” 5K walk/run to benefit RMH Heart Check on Feb. 6 at JMU.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. on the bottom floor of the JMU Festival Center, and the walk/run begins at 11 a.m.
Funds raised will be used to offer free educational heart health screenings, according to Maria Hostetter, RMH Heart Check navigator.
“The program identifies risk factors and offers prevention and self-management based education,” Hostetter said. “It is important to know that heart disease is 80 percent preventable. Heart Check equips participants with achievable risk reduction strategies to stay well. With the outstanding support of the Alpha Phi Foundation, we will be able to provide at least 250, and possibly more, community members’ screenings and education at no cost.”
The Alpha Phi Sorority of James Madison University has raised a total of nearly $30,000 for RMH Heart Check through its annual fundraisers since 2006.
Event registration is available online at alphaphi5k.eventbrite.com. Before Feb. 3, the cost is $12, and $15 after. Refreshments provided.
