Debra Thompson, director of Corporate Communications at RMH, has been named to a six-member committee that will select recipients of the 2009 Daily News-Record Leadership Awards.
Each year, the Daily News-Record awards a $10,000 Leadership Award to a graduating senior from each of the four area high schools: Broadway, Harrisonburg, Spotswood and Turner Ashby. The Leadership Awards were first presented in 1955.
“It is an honor to be a part of this selection committee,” Thompson said. “I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to help recognize some of our community’s outstanding youth. These are our future leaders.”
Thompson, who has been with RMH for 21 years, also serves as an adjunct instructor in the JMU School of Media Arts and Design. She is a member of the Generations Crossing board of directors and is a charter and current member of the JMU-RMH Collaborative Steering Team.
A graduate of Elkton High School, she received a bachelor’s degree in English and speech communication and a master’s degree in technical and scientific communication from James Madison University.
Thompson is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Shenandoah Valley Public Relations Council, the Public Relations Society of America, the Virginia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, Virginia Press Women, for which she has served as a board member, and the National Federation of Press Women. She has received a number of state and national awards for publications and writing.
