Kids learning at RMH Home and Farm Safety DayRMH will host the RMH/Bowman/Progressive Agriculture Home and Farm Safety Day from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Rockingham County Fair Grounds.

“Children and adults need to be aware of the potential hazards they encounter every day. By knowing what dangers are on the family farm or around the house, injury, illness or even death can be prevented,” said Dr. Steven Phillips, RMH Occupational Health medical director.

The cost of the event is $5 per person or $10 per family. Activities and demonstrations are available for participants ages 5 to adult.

“RMH is committed to the safety of our community,” said Vickie Davis, RMH Occupational Health clinical patient service representative and Safety Day coordinator. “This program is fun as it is educational. In the Valley, children are often exposed to farm equipment. Children can actually teach their families based on what they learn in this hands-on event.”

Partners include local agricultural businesses, rescue squads, civic and service groups, farming experts and hospital staff. Volunteers give their time to provide training on a wide range of farm and home safety topics.

This year’s lineup of classes includes survival safety, small animal safety and tractor safety.

Registration is required by Feb. 1. Click to register, or call RMH Healthsource at 540-564-7200. Adults are welcome to register and attend with their children.
