Statistics About Hodgkin's Disease

Some people use statistics to try to figure out their chance of getting cancer or of being cured. Statistics show what happens with large groups of people. Because no two people are alike, statistics can’t be used to know or predict what will happen to you.

These are statistics about Hodgkin's disease from the American Cancer Society:

  • Approximately 8,830 Americans will be diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease this year.

  • Hodgkin's disease affects men more than women. In men, 4,820 new cases will occur and in women, about 4,010 will occur. These numbers have not changed much over the past few years.

  • Hodgkin's disease can occur in adults and children. It is more common between ages 15 and 40, and again after age 55.

  • Treatment for Hodgkin's disease is often very effective, with about 81 percent of people surviving at least 10 years after being diagnosed.

  • About 1,300 people will die of Hodgkin's disease this year.
