Already, more than 40 Shenandoah Valley area artists have submitted work for consideration to be displayed at the new RMH hospital and health campus set to open mid-2010, but art selectors would like to double or triple that number.

“We continue to seek artists’ portfolio submissions,” said Merv Webb, vice president, RMH Foundation, and co-chair of the art selection committee for the new hospital. “Of particular interest is three-dimensional artwork, including sculpture, mosaic, mobiles, ceramics and textiles. We would like to see more portfolios of three-dimensional work submitted for consideration.”

He encouraged artists who work in two-dimensional media to continue submitting portfolios of their work. “We don’t want to leave any stone unturned in the search,” he said. “We continue to seek the talent of the local community to fill the new RMH hospital and health campus with artwork that conveys the history and beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.”

Artists who do not wish to sell their original two-dimensional works for the permanent collection may submit pieces for RMH to consider purchasing the rights to professional reproduction as giclees (fine digital prints) for display, Webb said.

RMH is working with The Ambiance Group of Nashville, Tenn. to select artwork. The Ambiance Group is an art services company specializing in art for healthcare, senior living and corporate environments. The company provides art consulting, framing and installation and has helped furnish artwork for hundreds of health care facilities across the U.S.

The Ambiance Group will help RMH to assemble a permanent art collection for its new facility. All artists are asked to deal directly with the Ambiance Group in submitting work for consideration. Artwork purchase is set to begin in the summer or fall of 2009, said Ginny Parker of the Ambiance Group.

According to the mission statement for the new hospital art selection committee, “RMH seeks to nurture an atmosphere of healing for patients, families and visitors at its new facility by selecting visual art that reflects the personality, culture and natural environment of the surrounding Shenandoah Valley.”

To have work considered for display at the new hospital, artists should submit a portfolio that: a) conveys the style of the artist’s work, b) includes digital images of artwork, c) includes artist biography and d) preferably comes in the form of a website or e-mail with attachments.

The deadline to submit a portfolio is June 30, 2009.

Artists who do not have a computer or who have difficulty submitting a digital portfolio may contact Parker at the Ambiance Group, (615) 353-0723, or the Arts Council of the Valley, (540) 801-8779, for assistance.

Portfolio submissions and all inquiries should be directed to Ginny Parker at ginnyp@ambianceart.com. For more information, visit www.ambianceart.com. To contact Parker by mail, write to The Ambiance Group, 6015 Neighborly Avenue, Nashville, Tenn., 37209.

Those who wish to make a monetary donation to add art to the permanent art collection of RMH may receive more information by contacting the RMH Foundation, (540) 564-5959.
