Sandra Cubbage, RD, Food and Nutrition Services, has earned the credential of registered dietitian.
The credential was conferred by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association. To become a registered dietitian, Cubbage completed a CADE-approved internship and passed the national certification examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
According to the CADE, the registered dietitian credential signifies that a dietitian has acquired advanced knowledge and expertise in nutrition science, as well as chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology.
“Patients who consult a registered dietitian can be assured that they are receiving the highest quality nutritional counseling and therapy,” said Ellen Barrett, director, Food and Nutrition Services.
Because dietetics is a constantly evolving field, to maintain the RD credential, dietitians must participate regularly in continuing education activities and seminars.
Cubbage holds a master’s degree from JMU in nutrition and physical activity. She has been an RMH employee for three months and works exclusively with inpatients. RMH has seven registered dietitians, Barrett said.
