The peripheral vascular lab at RMH was recently re-accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
This accomplishment signifies RMH’s commitment to providing a high level of patient care and quality testing for the screening and diagnosis of vascular (blood vessel) disease, noted Tom Rice, RMH Heart and Vascular Center program manager.
The peripheral vascular lab at RMH is a part of the RMH Heart and Vascular Center. It is one of a select number of vascular laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to meet or exceed the ICAVL standards for non-invasive vascular testing. The ICAVL accreditation is good for three years, Rice said.
During the accreditation process, all aspects of the laboratory’s daily operations and their impact on the quality of health care provided to patients are reviewed. While completing the accreditation process, laboratories are required to identify and correct potential problems, revise protocols and validate quality assurance programs.
Participation in the accreditation process demonstrates the laboratory’s attention to a high level of patient care and quality testing, explained Rice. “ICAVL sets the gold standard for vascular labs. We take pride in the fact that our lab meets their stringent accreditation requirements,” he noted. “Our patients can be assured that all aspects of our lab are of the highest standard.”
The peripheral vascular lab at RMH provides community-based vascular screenings in addition to hospital-based diagnostic testing for carotid artery disease, peripheral artery and vein disease and renal artery disease. All diagnostic peripheral vascular exams at RMH are interpreted by board-certified radiologists and vascular surgeons with specialized training in the diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease, Rice said.
