Despite Economic Downturn, Employees Exceed Campaign Goal by 35 Percent

Three of the four RMH Employee Gifts Campaign co-chairs, costumed as
presidential candidates, encourage RMH employees to “Vote for RMH” in
2008. Employees “turned out” in overwhelming numbers, exceeding the
campaign goal by 35 percent and bringing the highest participation rate ever
for an RMH employee gifts campaign.

RMH employees have donated more than $108,000 in the 2008 Employee Gifts Campaign, shattering the campaign goal of $80,000.

Overall, nearly 30 percent of employees—610--participated in the campaign, which was centered on the theme “Decision 2008: Vote for RMH” as a salute to this year’s presidential race. This number represents a 38 percent increase in participation over the 2007 campaign and is the highest level of participation on record.

“I am really proud of our employees for ‘choosing’ RMH by donating to this year’s campaign,” said RMH President and CEO Jim Krauss. “Considering the current state of the economy, to have this many employees give back to RMH clearly shows how committed they are to the hospital’s mission. What’s gratifying for all of us is knowing the benefit these gifts will ultimately bring our patients.”

Employees have been supporting the hospital through an annual gifts campaign since 1975. During this year’s campaign, which ran from May 28 to July 4, employees had the option to support various needs throughout the hospital. According to Merv Webb, vice president, Foundation, the need receiving the greatest support was the Employee Relief Fund, a fund set up by the hospital to assist employees who are facing a personal financial crisis due to serious illness or another catastrophic situation.

The need receiving the second highest level of support was building and equipment needs throughout the hospital, Webb said. These funds will help provide critical equipment and technology to improve patient care.

Webb thanked the campaign co-chairs and the department representatives for their help in encouraging employees to donate. “Once again our employees are taking a lead in helping to create a healthier community for all our families, friends and neighbors,” he said.
