Dr. Heidi Rafferty

Heidi D. Rafferty, MD has joined the RMH Medical Staff and has privileges in breast surgery.

Dr. Rafferty is in practice at RMH Breast Care at Women’s Health Focus. She will provide consultation, follow-up, and surgical services for women who have benign or malignant breast conditions. She specializes in breast-sparing surgical techniques and a new surgical procedure for breast cancer that helps dramatically reduce the amount of time required for radiation therapy.

She also will offer genetic counseling for women at high risk for breast or ovarian cancer. In addition, she has significant experience in treating disorders associated with breast-feeding and with benign breast disease.

“We are delighted to be expanding the range of services we can offer women dealing with breast disease,” said Teresa Boshart Yoder, director, Women’s Services at RMH. “Dr. Rafferty brings a unique blend of leading-edge surgical expertise and a fervent passion to serve and help women dealing with breast problems.”

Dr. Rafferty received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Maryland and her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed an internship and residency, and served as chief resident in general surgery, at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Rockefeller University and a surgical oncology residency at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

“I am extremely pleased to be here and excited about what we are going to provide women in this community,” Dr. Rafferty said. “RMH has a vision of what breast care can and should be. I will use my skills, my compassion, and the latest surgical technology and techniques to make that vision a reality.”

Before coming to RMH, Dr. Rafferty was in practice with North Valley Breast Clinic in Redding, Cal. She served as attending surgeon for Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Outpatient Surgery Center, Shasta Regional Medical Center, Patient’s Hospital, and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, all in Redding.

Dr. Rafferty also served as an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Davis. She has been published in a number of medical journals, including the Journal of the American Cancer Society and the Internet Journal of Surgery.

She is certified by the American College of Surgeons and the National Board of Medical Examiners. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, of which she is a charter member, the American Society of Breast Disease, the California Medical Association and the North Valley Medical Association.
