Systems analyst Gina Yost, RN, RMH Information Systems, presented two educational seminars at the 2008 MEDITECH Nurse Informatics Workshop April 10-11 at the MEDITECH facility in Canton, Massachusetts.

MEDITECH provides integrated software solutions that meet the information needs of health care organizations worldwide. RMH implemented a MEDITECH system in 2007 to transition the organization from paper patient records to electronic ones for increased efficiency.

The goal of this significant organization-wide transition was to support improvement in care processes and quality by providing timely, accurate information to clinicians, explained Mike Rozmus, RMH chief information officer and vice president, Information Services. He noted that the MEDITECH system allows caregivers to view a patient’s entire clinical record, use data to make better medical decisions and share information electronically across the continuum of care.

“We assembled a team of 100 clinical and support staff members to lead this important project,” Rozmus said. “Gina Yost was selected to coordinate our clinical build teams since she had participated in a recent and very successful clinical system implementation for perioperative care.”

At the recent MEDITECH conference, Yost was one of three speakers on the Innovative Teaching Strategies Panel. She presented information about e-learning modules (computer based training) and routines used to capture clinical information about I.V. titration and blood transfusions. RMH was among the first MEDITECH hospitals to use these new technologies.

“Both measures improve patient safety and the quality of information within patients’ electronic medical records,” Yost said. “They illustrate how RMH is making great strides in implementing technology that allows us to provide safer patient care.”

Yost has been with RMH for 10 years. Before becoming a clinical analyst she worked as a nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
