RMH invites the community to participate in events to raise awareness about heart health during American Heart Month in February.
Matters of the Heart
The free heart health symposium will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 at the JMU Festival Conference and Student Center. Presenters include interventional cardiologist David McLaughlin, MD, and electrophysiologist Robert VerNooy, MD. Blood pressure screenings, educational displays, door prizes and refreshments will be available. Registration is required by clicking here, or calling RMH Healthsource at 564-7200.
National Wear Red Day: Go Red for Women:
On Friday, Feb. 3, wear red in support of this day of recognition. Anna-Joy’s will have red dresses on display at RMH on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3.
Walk the Walk
RMH will host a walk around the new health campus from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 (inclement weather date: Feb. 10). The first 100 walkers will receive free red scarves.
Alpha Phi’s “Move Your Phi’t 5K Walk/Run
JMU sorority Alpha Phi coordinates this annual event, with proceeds benefiting the RMH Heart and Vascular Center. The race takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, with registration at 9 a.m. For more information, or to register, go to http://moveyourphit5k2012.eventbrite.com/.
Heart-Healthy meals
Every Friday in February, the Mountain View Café will offer special heart-healthy meals between 11 a.m and 2 p.m. The Coffee Cup, located in RMH’s main concourse, will also have heart-themed coffee drinks every day.
