The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project and Jeremiah Bishop’s Alpine Loop Gran Fondo presented a $1,500 gift to the RMH Foundation on Wednesday to benefit the RMH Hahn Cancer Center. The funds are to support prostate cancer screening and prevention.

“We are grateful for this gift to help us continue offering free prostate cancer screenings to our community,” said Merv Webb, vice president of the RMH Foundation.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in American men older than age 75, but is found in men as young as 40. One in six men will be diagnosed during his lifetime.

Jeremiah Bishop’s Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, was held in September and is a mix of long-distance bicycle racing, riding and festival. The course for the Gran Fondo began and ended in Harrisonburg and covered 95 miles, featuring 11,000 feet of climbing..

Bishop has been a member of the USA National team 12 times and was the national champion in short track cross country and marathon mountain biking in 2008. For more information about the Gran Fondo, visit AlpineLoopGranFondo.com. Bishop is a member of the 2012 Olympic long team.

”The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project and its leadership have shown they are committed to reinvesting a great portion of the funds raised by the Gran Fondo right here in the Shenandoah Valley as exemplified by their gift to the RMH Hahn Cancer Center,” Bishop said.

The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project aims to promote awareness and early detection by supporting free prostate cancer screenings. For more information about the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project, visit 29000men.org.
