RMH has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and their families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in U.S. hospitals.
About 700 hospitals in the United States (approximately 15 percent) have applied for and received this award.
“Receiving this award fits well with our journey of excellence and our vision to provide results that count,” said Stan Holland, director, Pulmonary Services. “The award speaks to the improved processes we have implemented in our new, well-designed hospital. It also recognizes our commitment to continuous work practice reassessment--not just with the respiratory care team, but also with the Pharmacy team, who supply medications in patient rooms, and with the Nursing team, who help restock supplies in the rooms. The bottom line is our patients get better care.”
The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.
Hospitals that meet the QRCR requirements provide a level of respiratory care consistent with national standards and guidelines, and should be commended for their commitment to quality care, says the AARC. An explanation of the requirements along with a list of QRCR hospitals is available at the association’s website: www.YourLungHealth.org.
“Those of us who know our respiratory care practitioners are confident of their great abilities,” said William Cale, MD, medical director for RMH Respiratory Services. “It is a huge accomplishment for a national organization to recognize those abilities.”
RMH Vice President of Acute Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive Donna Hahn, RN, added: “It is an honor to work with such dedicated respiratory therapists. As a group and as individuals, they provide excellent care for RMH patients through knowledge, caring and teamwork with other providers. We are very proud of them and so glad they are on our RMH team.”
The AARC is a membership organization representing more than 50,000 health professionals involved in respiratory care nationwide.
