 Casual Friday Boutique of Harrisonburg will host a fashion show, luncheon and silent auction to benefit breast cancer patients Sept 18, 1-3:30 p.m., at the Spotswood Country Club.
The event includes a catered luncheon, silent auction, entertainment by the Rockingham Ballet and singer Christina Carter, and a Casual Friday fashion show. Models in the fashion show are breast cancer survivors, notes boutique owner Crystal Fleming.
The cost of the event is $25 per person. Seating is limited, and tickets are expected to sell out quickly, Fleming notes. Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of special treatment garments for women who have undergone a mastectomy as patients of the RMH Women’s Center.
“What's unique about the jackets is they are equipped with Velcro patches over the chest area, side openings for exams and an interior pouch to support the drainage tubes [needed after mastectomy],” Fleming says. “It’s a comfortable jacket to go home from the hospital and a discreet garment for patients to wear during follow-up exams or just being out and about town.”
RMH breast health navigator Deanna Lam, RN, notes that women who have undergone a mastectomy often are thrilled to receive a functional, comfortable garment that also maintains a sense of fashion.
“Many women remark the jackets are helpful with self-care needs,” Lam says. “Also, they love having something comfortable and pretty. One woman told us, ‘Now I can go to the store with my husband.’ It made a huge difference in the way she felt about herself.”
