RMH Marketing, Corporate Communications Departments Garner Statewide Awards

RMH Marketing, Corporate Communications Win Awards

The RMH Market Development and Corporate Communications departments have won 15 awards in the annual Measure of Excellence competition sponsored by the Virginia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations.

The annual Measure of Excellence Awards competition recognizes outstanding achievements in healthcare marketing, public relations, communication and community relations. Judging is conducted by a peer society from another state. For 2011, the judges were from the Georgia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations.

Each entry is judged on its own merit and is evaluated on the basis of response to a problem or need; effectiveness of reaching the target audience; quality and appropriateness of materials; effectiveness in achieving its goal(s); and overall impression of the project.

RMH received first place, second place and third place awards, as follows:

First Place

  • Crisis Communication—New Hospital Patient Move Day
  • External Publications—HealthQuest Magazine
  • Internal Publications—Destination Health Newsletter 
  • Print Advertising—“Do You Need to See an Orthopedist?”
  • Public Relations Event/Project—RMH Open House Events
  • Website—Joint Services Website
  • Writing—“CSI Harrisonburg: Up Close and Personal with Kent Folsom, MD” by Holly Martin

Second Place

  • Advertising Campaign—New RMH Healthcare Ads (includes TV, radio, print)
  • Billboard—New Hospital Billboard campaign
  • Internal Publications—Medical Staff Times Newsletter
  • Writing—“We’ve Arrived! RMH Safely and Successfully Completes June 22 Move to New Hospital” by Neil Mowbray
  • Writing—“Wired—and Wireless—to Improve Patient Care” by Debra Thompson

Third Place

  • Advertising Campaign—New Hospital Opening Countdown Campaign Ads
  • PR Event—LEED Gold Certification Celebration
  • Special Purpose Publication—New Hospital Campus Guide
“We faced an enormous opportunity for communication as we prepared to move into a new facility on a new health campus in June 2010,” said Kay Harrison, vice president, Business Development. “Our Marketing and Communications departments rose to the occasion to tell our community the story of the new hospital and health campus, encourage them to share our excitement and ensure they had the information they needed to access care. We realized great success in all these areas, and I am proud of the team’s achievements.”
