The RMH Volunteer Auxiliary will host “A Stroll Through the Century,” an event to celebrate its 100th anniversary, at 3 p.m. May 6 in the Mountain View Café, located on the Lower Level of the hospital.
The presentation will highlight the changing face of volunteer service, along with fashion and music from each decade since 1911. That is the year the RMH Volunteer Auxiliary was formed to raise funds to furnish the new hospital, which opened in October 1912.
This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Parking is available in Lot A.
More than 300 RMH volunteers routinely provide service throughout the hospital, assisting with greeting and wayfinding, patient transport and discharge, chaplaincy, Hospice, various special projects, and operating RMH Gifts & Floral, according to Chris Delaughter, director, RMH Volunteer Services.
“Volunteering is a great way for people to feel a sense of accomplishment in giving back to the community in a hands-on way,” said Delaughter. “Volunteers often comment that their service lifts their spirit, they enjoy the interactions they have with others and love feeling they have helped someone deal with a difficult time in their day or life.”
RMH volunteers provided more than 43,600 hours of service in 2010, a savings of $910,000 to the organization, she noted.
