Dr. Kini Elected to Fellowship in the American College of PhysiciansRMH inpatient physician Ganesh D. Kini, MD, PhD, has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians (ACP).

“The election to fellowship in the ACP occurs only after a board-certified internal medicine physician has achieved documented success in clinical, research and leadership endeavors,” explained John McGowan, MD, president and CEO, RMH Medical Group. “Dr. Kini joins a small group of distinguished local physicians who have achieved such fellowship in their given medical specialty. He is to be wholeheartedly congratulated for this special recognition.”

The ACP is a national organization of internists—physicians who specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses in adults. ACP is the largest medical-specialty organization and second largest physician group in the United States. Its 130,000 members include internists, internal medicine sub-specialists, medical students, residents and fellows. according to the organization’s website.

According to its website, the ACP’s mission is “to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine,”

Dr. Kini graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Virginia, Roanoke-Salem Program. He is board certified in internal medicine.

He serves at RMH as medical director, Hospital Division, which includes hospitalists, cardiothoracic surgery and palliative care, and is an adjunct clinical assistant professor for the James Madison University physician assistant program. He joined the RMH Medical Staff in 2006.

Dr. Kini credited RMH as part of the reason for his ACP election. “RMH is a great place to practice medicine, particularly because of its culture of patient safety first, and its excellence and adherence to the highest ethical standards,” he commented. “This has enabled me to be accepted into the society of my peers, for which I feel honored.”
