The RMH Women’s Center will hold a retreat aimed at strengthening the bond between mothers and their pre-teen daughters at the Horizons at Valley Pike Meeting and Retreat Center February 25-26.
“The mother-daughter bond is one of the most special, and most complicated, relationships we have,” said Dawn Alexander, MD, of RMH Family Medicine. “’Tween’ girls need their mother’s guidance and love, but they’re also learning to be their own person and sometimes wish for more independence and understanding.”
Dr. Alexander will lead a light-hearted conversation for mothers and daughters on the physical and emotional changes girls face in their ‘tween years.
Other activities will include:
- “No Moms Allowed!” break-out session just for ‘tweens
- “Whose Kid Is This, Anyway?” break-out session for moms
- Zumba® lessons with staff from the RMH Wellness Center
- Be a knit-wit! Learn the fun art of knitting
- Games, movies and food
“The RMH Women’s Center team knows how challenging—and special–-this time in a mother-daughter relationship can be,” said Julie Alderfer-Stauffer, RN, clinical educator, RMH Women’s Center. “We invite mothers and daughters to this getaway where we will learn, laugh and have fun together.”
Each mother-daughter pair will share a room with two twin beds. Linens are provided, but attendees should bring pillows and extra blankets. Horizons at Valley Pike Meeting and Retreat Center is located just north of Harrisonburg off Rt. 11. Learn more about the center at www.horizonsvalleypike.com.
The retreat costs $180 per mother-daughter pair. Price includes meals and all activities. Space is limited. To register, call RMH Healthsource at 1-800-433-4580 by February 18.
The RMH Women’s Center is committed to providing health education to the women of our community. In addition to special events, the Women’s Center offers digital mammography, bone density screenings, heart health screenings and education. It is also home to RMH Breast Care, the physician practice of breast surgeon Heidi Rafferty, MD.
