 RMH invites the community to participate in events to raise awareness around heart health during American Heart Month in February.
National Wear Red Day: Go Red for Women. On Friday, Feb. 4, wear red in support of this day of recognition.
Senior Advantage Seminar: “Why Managing Your Blood Pressure is so Important.” Monday, Feb 7, 10 a.m. at the RMH Atrium; and Tuesday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m. at Plains District Community Center in Timberville. The seminar is presented by Elizabeth Fitzgerald RN, BSN.
Matters of the Heart is a free heart health symposium on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30pm at the JMU Festival Conference and Student Center. This year, presenters include cardiothoracic surgeon Steven W. Marra, MD, and electrophysiologist Robert VerNooy, MD. Blood pressure screenings, educational displays, door prizes, and refreshments will be available. Registration is required by calling RMH Healthsource at 433-4580.
RMH Wellness Center Zumbathon Fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 18 (snow date: Feb. 19). Come dance your way to health from 6-8 p.m. This event is free to members (donations encouraged), and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association. To register, call RMH Healthsource at 433-4580.
Alpha Phi’s “Move Your Phi’t 5K Walk/Run. JMU’s sorority Alpha Phi is once again coordinating this fantastic event, with proceeds benefiting the RMH Heart Check program. Race day is Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m., with registration at 10 a.m. For more information or to register, go to www.moveyourphit5k2011.eventbrite.com.
Alpha Phi Red Dress Gala. Join JMU’s sorority for an elegant dinner at the Spotswood Country Club on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7pm. $50 a plate. Proceeds benefit RMH Heart Check.
