Robert Underwood, MD, CMIO, has been named a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management.
CPE certification indicates a physician has achieved professional excellence and management education, while demonstrating effective knowledge and leadership skills, according to the Certifying Commission in Medical Management (CCMM).
“I appreciate the opportunity to continue my learning as a physician executive,” Dr. Underwood said. “Before my life as a doctor, I was very involved in management and leadership. This certification combined the best of both.”
In addition to serving RMH as chief medical information officer (CMIO), Dr. Underwood works part-time as a physician in the RMH Emergency Department. He has been an active member of the RMH Medical Staff since 2001, and is a partner in Harrisonburg Emergency Physicians. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
The CCMM, a national certifying body for physicians specializing in medical management, is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) to establish and maintain the high standards required for physician executive certification.
The ACPE is the nation’s largest organization of physicians in health care leadership. The College is recognized by the American Medical Association as the specialty society representing physicians in management and holds a seat in the AMA House of Delegates.
The Certifying Commission in Medical Management currently lists 1,542 certified physician executives. For more information, visit www.ccmm.org.
