RMH neurologist Daniel M. Chehebar, DO, has been appointed as a member of the Virginia Stroke Systems Task Force.
Virginia Stroke Systems (VSS) is a state-wide collaborative led by the Mid-Atlantic chapters of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, along with the Virginia Department of Health. VSS includes the voluntary participation of many service providers across the Commonwealth. Through its newly formed Task Force, the VSS works toward improving systems of stroke care throughout Virginia.
Dr. Chehebar was selected to serve on the VSS Task Force for a two-year term that begins in October 2010. His responsibilities will include serving on project teams in the areas of stroke education, acute treatment, EMS stroke care, telemedicine and rehabilitation. He will work to promote information through the VSS Task Force website. And he will collaborate with Virginia hospitals to achieve excellence in stroke care and help develop certified primary stroke centers throughout Virginia.
As a representative from the Shenandoah Valley, Dr. Chehebar will bring local issues to the discussion, and help apply solutions to those issues both regionally and statewide.
“As director of RMH’s efforts to become a Joint Commission-certified primary stroke center, I am honored to have been given the opportunity and privilege to serve in this capacity,” says Dr. Chehebar. “Being on the Task Force allows me to learn from other experts in the field of stroke care so I can apply those improvements locally. It also permits me to contribute my experience and skills toward improving stroke care throughout Virginia.”
John McGowan, MD, president and CEO of the RMH Medical Group, notes that Dr. Chehabar’s appointment will assist RMH in achieving its goal of becoming a primary stroke center. “Dr. Chehebar will be able to draw on the experience of the Virginia Department of Health and the American Stroke Association, as well as the Task Force’s accomplishments and expertise, to help us provide exceptional care for the victims of stroke in our community,” he says.
Dr. Chehebar adds that through the efforts of RMH Stroke Center Coordinator Janet Marshman, RN, and the hard work of everyone on the stroke work team, “we have made tremendous advances in how stroke is managed and cared for at RMH. And we are already seeing how these changes are leading to improvements in our stroke core measures and treatment outcomes, which will allow us to meet Joint Commission criteria.”
