To commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the RMH Women’s Center and Panera Bread will host a breast cancer survivor social from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 9 at Panera Bread in Harrisonburg.
More than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors are alive today in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute, and this year alone, 207,000 new cases will be diagnosed.
“The number of people affected by this disease is devastating, but diagnosis and treatment continue to improve,” said Teresa Boshart-Yoder, director, RMH Women’s Center. For those who have survived, including myself, there is reason to celebrate. For those recently diagnosed, there is reason for hope, and for our community as a whole, there is more to learn.”
Information about breast cancer prevention will be available throughout the day and there will be a question and answer conversation with a breast cancer survivor at 2 p.m.
The RMH Mobile Mammography Van also will be on site for tours and mammography appointments. Call (540) 433-4641 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome if openings are available.
Free “pink ribbon” bagels will be given to those who have a mammogram that day. Panera also will donate the proceeds from the sale of “pink ribbon” bagels throughout the month of October at benefit the breast care program at the RMH Women’s Center.
Panera Bread is located at 295 Burgess Road in the Harrisonburg Crossing Shopping Center.
