Family-focused activities, exercise classes, health screenings, cooking demos and membership discounts will highlight the RMH Wellness Center’s seventh annual Fall Fitness Festival to be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.
The center is located at 501 Stone Spring Road in Harrisonburg. The festival is free and open to the public and will feature health screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, a mini-farmer’s market, a golf clinic and a variety of children’s activities. Discounted Wellness Center membership opportunities will be available, as will refreshments and giveaways.
“This year we’ve focused on embracing ongoing health and wellness efforts in the community,” said Melinda Swisher, director, RMH Wellness Center. “People in the community are embracing healthy habits and lifestyles and we want to celebrate and encourage that for the entire family and community. We want people to be able to bring their children, have fun and be active while they’re here.”
This year’s featured specialty fitness class is Turbo Kick, a heart-pumping fusion of hip-hop and kickboxing. Additional demos include Pilates, John Rogers’ golf clinic, RAD Kids (self defense for kids) and a lacrosse clinic.
The Hackens Boys band will provide live music. Children’s activities include face-painting, finger casting, a moon bounce and obstacle course, and a visit from the Chick-Fil-A cow. Safety education booths include a Car Fit clinic and “Seat Belt Convincer.”
Refreshments will be provided by Pancheros and Salad Creations. In addition, families can visit a mini-farmer’s market hosted by the Friendly City Food Co-Op.
Those who join the RMH Wellness Center on Sept. 18 between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. will receive 75 percent off the enrollment fee, plus the rest of the month’s membership free. In addition, current members can choose a free membership upgrade during the festival.
Festival participants can take advantage of health screenings, including cholesterol, diabetes, glucose, colon cancer, osteoporosis, breast cancer and Heart Check. These screenings provide key indicators of overall health and wellness. Participants are encouraged to share their results with their primary care physicians.
