Deadline for Applications is Oct. 30
RMH Healthcare invites students from diverse backgrounds who are studying in a health care related field to apply for Diversity in Healthcare Scholarships.
For the spring semester, four $2,500 scholarships are available to students who reside in the RMH service area that includes the counties of Rockingham, Augusta, Page and Shenandoah and the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro. Students who have been accepted to or attend Blue Ridge Community College, Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, Mary Baldwin College, James Madison University or Shenandoah University but do not live in the RMH service area are eligible also.
“The health care needs of our country and our local community are growing rapidly, but we do not have the same growth in health care professionals, particularly those from diverse backgrounds” said Silvia Garcia-Romero, RMH cultural diversity manager. “As our population becomes more diverse, we want to ensure that we also have a diversified workforce that is reflective of the community we serve.”
Applicants will be reviewed based on GPA, bilingual and bicultural background, degree type and leadership in the community.
To be considered, applications should be sent by Oct. 30 to Garcia-Romero at email@example.com. Applicants must complete and submit the following to be considered:
- Scholarship application
- Official school transcripts
- A two-page essay (double-spaced, 12-point Book Antiqua or Times New Roman font) explaining your reason for applying
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, guidance counselor or advisor
Applicants may be selected for an in-person interview after they have completed the application process. This year’s scholarships are funded by a grant from the VA Health Workforce Development Authority.
