Risk factors for falls include muscle weakness, impaired walking, decreased balance and decreased flexibility. To address these issues, our physical and occupational therapists can provide postural, balance and proprioceptive exercises to increase safety and awareness.
In addition, our staff has special expertise in treating vestibular balance problems (related to the inner ear). Approximately 2 million people each year visit their physicians for vestibular balance disorders. The majority of these people are elderly. The goal of vestibular rehabilitation is to help those affected adapt to the dizziness they experience. This is commonly accomplished with a home program of vestibular adaptation exercises that helps retrain the functioning vestibular components.
