The James Madison University Theta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi will host its annual “Move You Phi’t” 5K walk/run to benefit
RMH Heart Check at 10 a.m. Feb. 25.
Registration and check-in will take place at 9 a.m. on the bottom floor of the JMU Festival Center.
Funds raised from the event will be used to offer free heart health
screenings, said RMH Heart Health Navigator Maria Hostetter, RN.
“The RMH Heart Check program is a unique educational service that has
served more than 1,400 men and women since it began in 2006,” Hostetter
said. “With the outstanding support of Alpha Phi, we will be able to
provide a number of eligible patients with heart disease risk factor
screening and education at no cost.”
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America.
RMH Heart Check offers individualized screenings to men and women to
gauge coronary disease factors. Risk factors calculated include fasting
total cholesterol and glucose levels, body mass index (BMI), blood
pressure and lifestyle. The Heart Check program also includes one-on-one
nutrition and exercise education.
The Alpha Phi Sorority at James Madison has supported the
RMH Heart Check program through annual fundraisers since 2006.
Event registration is available online at
moveyourphit5k2012.eventbrite.co.uk and costs $12.
