Where Your Gift is Needed

We greatly appreciate gifts of all sizes. These gifts can be given to the hospital with no restrictions on their use, or they can be earmarked for a specific need, as described below.

Unrestricted Gifts

Unrestricted gifts are used for equipment and program needs throughout the hospital and in the community. In 2006, unrestricted and restricted gifts totaling nearly $1.4 million funded multiple program and equipment needs throughout the hospital. These included community health screenings, a patient simulator, defibrillator machines, an adult ventilator and an infant scale.

The RMH Foundation Board has identified the following projects, among others, needing funding in 2007:

  • 4 East—Telemetry Transmitters $15,000
  • Pediatrics—Alarm System $14,476
  • Family BirthPlace—Infant Isolette $40,000
  • Cardiology—ACLS Manakin $9,000
  • Respiratory Care—Adult Ventilator $39,400
  • Emergency Department—Stretchers $20,000
  • Lab—Cell Counter $225,000
  • Cardiac Cath Lab—Intra-vascular Ultrasound $125,000
  • Surgery—Instruments $80,000

RMH Regional Cancer Center

In 2006, local citizens received 6,167 chemo therapy treatments and 7,132 radiation treatments at the RMH Cancer Center. Gifts designated for the center are used to purchase the latest in technology and to fund needed expansion. In 2006, donations funded $635,143 in life-saving equipment upgrades. Funds from the Foundation’s Be An Angel fundraiser are used exclusively for Cancer Center needs. Many families request that gifts be made in memory of a loved one.

RMH Hospice

Last year, the RMH Hospice program made nearly 10,000 visits to support and comfort patients in the final days of their lives. The Foundation funded more than $66,000 of Hospice expenses. Gifts to Hospice provide many of the “extras,” such as training for volunteers, specialized equipment, patient education materials, staff education and caring support for the families in need.

Heart Program

RMH Cardiopulmonary Services continues to grow. In 2006, RMH performed more than 500 diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations. Gifts support a wide range of needs, including equipment for the Cardiac Cath lab, cardiac rehabilitation and equipment for the Critical Care Unit. In addition, in 2007 RMH will launch its Open Heart Surgery program. Gifts support the renovation of the operating room and the purchase of necessary equipment, instruments and supplies.

Nursing Heritage Program

RMH is committed to protecting the future of nursing locally and to preserving the high quality of healthcare in our community. RMH and the RMH School of Nursing Alumni Association have partnered to establish the Nursing Heritage Program. With agoal of $1,500,000, the program is seeking gifts to provide nursing scholarships and continuing education, and to preserve the rich history of the School of Nursing.

Endowment

The Caring for Generations endowment program was established to help undergird the long-term financial strength of RMH by providing funds for both current and future needs. Over 65 individuals, families, businesses and organizations have established Named Endowed Funds supporting a wide range of needs including medical equipment, the Cancer Center, cardiology, radiology and children's needs served by RMH. Continued growth of the endowment fund is essential for RMH to continue to provide care for future generations.

Other Funds

Many hospital donors wish to give to other very specific needs, such as to a particular nursing unit, or to a specific program, such as the Family BirthPlace. The RMH Foundation has established over 150 such funds to which donors may contribute. If you wish to support a specific need, please call the RMH Foundation office at (540) 564-5955.
