Weight Loss SurgeryThe decision of having surgery is not to be taken lightly, and before your procedure you need as much information as possible. This section will provide you with that information, including specific medical details about how the LAP-BAND® System and the gastric sleeve procedure are performed surgically, and answers to the questions that patients, just like you, ask frequently.
Weight loss surgery is not the "easy way out." It requires your participation, motivation and hard work in order to produce results. The LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System is a tool that will help you lose weight, but it is up to you to use this tool properly by following all the dietary guidelines so that you can lose weight and stay healthy. It will be a challenge to make these changes in your daily habits.
Unlike LAP-BAND, the gastric sleeve procedure is a permanent change; a thin, vertical sleeve of your stomach is created using a stapling device and the rest of your stomach is removed. This option will also require you to follow significant changes in your daily habits, and strict dietary guidelines will need to be followed.
Ashley's LAP-BAND® Success Story
"I’ve been overweight since I was 9 years old. Last year, I was watching a marathon on TV about morbidly obese people. It was then that I realized I had to make serious changes.
I started doing research on the Lap-Band procedure at RMH and liked everything I was reading. I had surgery on July 6, 2010 and have lost 130 pounds in one year! I’m no longer diabetic and I no longer have high blood pressure.
This past year has been fabulous. I never had an “It’s totally not worth it” moment. Even when it was hard, I still knew it was completely worth the effort. My experience with RMH was fantastic. Dr. Garwood and Bonnie [Paine, PA-C] are amazing. They’re always there for me when I have a question.
I love shopping for clothes. Especially at Kohl’s! Before my surgery, it got to where I could no longer shop there. Now, I’m finding things that fit in the junior’s section!
I feel great."
